ZAMBHALA – Yoga, Spirit, Music festival is the best opportunity to meet urban yogis from around the country and also to learn from some fine Yoga teachers. It’s an opportunity to experience different styles of Yoga – Iyengar, Ashtanga, Hatha, Bihar school and more. There are Teachers who have taught for many years in different parts of the world and who will be sharing their knowledge and experiences. More than the stuff they teach; it’s their stories that can often be inspirational – it’s more about the YOGI than the Yoga one could argue. And then there are Meditation teachers and Spiritual healers conducting workshops, speakeasy sessions and helping to heal you emotionally and spiritually.
Foremost amongst the modern Indian yoga teachers is Dipika Mehta; whose life-story of recovering from a Rock-climbing fall that doctors said would restrict her to a wheel-chair is truly inspirational! Dipika took to yoga like a fish to water; and has successfully taught Ashtanga yoga for nearly a decade. Her innovation it seems has been to bring in primordial dance-like movements into yoga; something she calls ‘Dance of Prana’. A lot of Indian viewers will know Dipika through her Yoga show ‘Yoga City’ on NDTV Good Times. She’s also given a eye-popping TED Talk.
