It’s been a great year for all of us Teachers, Students and well-wishers of Total Yoga. 2015 brought us fantastic experiences and memories, taught us a lot about Yoga, we made new Friends and perhaps in the truest sense we discovered a little more about ourselves! So, here’s round-up of all the yogic adventures we set out on this year!
In January this year; Neetu, me and the entire TY team realised a long-standing dream to have a world-class Yoga studio that would also cater to the Arts. The Total Yoga ONEness Centre came into being with Yoga, Meditation, Dance, Music, a Painting exhibition and lots of love and energy!
In February we embarked on a fantastic Yogi Trek. This is designed as an experience to take Yoga outside the yoga studios and to the hills, environs where yogis have always practised and meditated.
April was special because we took 40 of our students to the Total Yoga Retreat in Rishikesh, which for most people is the World Capital of Yoga. We stayed in tents on the beach, rafted and trekked!
In May, we participated in the TCS World 10k Run as supporters of Vidya Foundation‘s Women’s Empowerment centre, where we teach every Thursday. Also, our dear Yogis surprised me on my birthday by dressing up as Celeb-Yoga students …. ala Madonna, Katrina Kaif, Rekha, Russell Brand and more! Thanks Neetu 🙂
June 21st saw the first U.N. International Day of Yoga celebrated worldwide! We hosted the wonderful World Yoga Day Festival at U.B. City, Bangalore. 3 other Yoga schools taught varied yoga styles, and we had Music and Dance performances to round off the event!
In July, we hosted a wonderful Full Moon Night Meditation on the occasion of Guru Purnima. With the rains falling, it was simply one of the best experiences we’ve hosted in Bangalore this year.
In August, all of us at Total Yoga took up the challenge of doing 108 Surya Namaskaars. Each yogi contributed Re 1 per Surya Namaskaar done, and in the end thanks to our generous students we collected Rs 40,000 – which enabled 1 under-privileged child to be funded for 1 year of schooling at the award-winning social school project – Vidya, Delhi.
In September, we hosted a 21 Day Fitness Challenge that got you sweating and in shape! 🙂 And training for Sirsasana (Head Stand)
In October, we hosted another Yoga Festival at VR Bangalore; once again inviting 3 other Yoga schools to participate. And the other exciting thing we did in terms of Karma Yoga was the Used-Clothes collection drive we hosted for Diwali. These clothes were given to the 2 NGOs we work with: Vidya Foundation and Cheshire Homes.
In November, we had a once in a lifetime experience of practising Yoga in the Himalayas! Taking 50 of our students to McLeodganj, then trekking up to Triund Hill and practising Yoga in the midst of snow-capped mountains was for many of us yogis a lifetime’s dream come true! And here’s what we learnt about doing Yoga in the Himalayas!
And finally we find ourselves in December! It was great fun meeting all our yogi friends at the Total Yoga Annual Nite! First in Bangalore and soon in Pune.
We’ll be closed from Dec 20- Jan 4th. In Jan we’ll resume with a 21 Day YOGA FITNESS Challenge from Jan 11th and in end-Jan, the 200hrs Total Yoga TEACHER TRAINING starts. There’s a year-full calendar stocked with amazing Yoga adventures including the next TOTAL YOGA RETREAT in Ladakh, end-May (during Buddha Purnima) and many more adventures!
Signing off on behalf of Neetu, Chinmayee, Purnima, Jaggi, Slavica, Catherine, Yashodhara, Divya, Sima, Deepika, Neelu, Jasbir, Lovely, Aida and everyone who is part of our adventures! Yours momentarily 🙂 – Manish
