The Power of Yoga: In Public Relations and In Dancing


This blog goes out to all those people who are waiting for their dreams to turn into reality, to all those people who will not sit and just wait but put in all the efforts required, the people who have the faith, to people who will never give up, to the people who look for inspiration and inspire others,  the people who just might somewhere feel that there is a need for something more to complete their being or answer the questions about the intangible ways of life.


My life has been a roller coaster ride, as contrasting as handling the operations for a PR firm to being a Salsa dancer. Life would probably be a tad bit easier if I was doing any one, but both define who I am and almost impossible to drop either of the feathers from my hat. Life always throws the uncertainties at you which you need to brave, but with some support of a thought institution/discipline makes life easier. Yoga, the ancient Indian practice is that support system for me.


PR jobs have been rated among the TOP 10 most stressful job across the world year on year. You go through lots of stress during work hours which effects your breathing , your nervous system. Yoga helps in correcting your breathing, oxygenating your system, relaxing your nervous system and stabilizing the heart beat. It makes you aware of your own self and helps cutting out the distraction or disturbances around.  As Manish says, Yoga is the science of the hormones, many yoga postures have many therapeutic advantages. I cured my Hypothyroidism with yoga by practicing postures that stimulate my thyroid gland.  People have a lot of misconceptions about Yoga, it is anything but boring, it is not only for flexible people, its for people of any age group. It corrects you in every possible way – mind, body, thoughts, habits, moods, behavior , health etc etc..


Yoga helps me in my life a as a dancer as well.. Trust me dance can add up to your stress if you take it up more competitively. Yoga helps me in my flexibility, strength and cardio fitness, 3 key aspects to be a good dancer. Vinyasa, Hatha and Power yoga can help in all of these respectively.  As a dancer you feel a lot of emotions of joy, helplessness, regret, sadness, lack of focus or just blah days. Yoga helped in probably looking at the bigger picture and accepting that dance is a journey throughout my life, a few failures and a few successes cannot define who you are, it helped me take key events in my life as a learning experience.


If yoga can help in my journey, I truly believe that it has something to offer to each and every one of us. It is sometimes just about going for that one class or about just telling yourself that I just need to be regular, you will be surprised to know that it will become an integral part of your life, it just grows on you.


So, don’t wait, unleash the power of Yoga in your life!
