A blend of forward bend, twist, balance and strength, comes Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana. The asana is beneficial and challenging. This variation of Ardha Chandrasana is a dynamic posture as its benefits a umultitude of body parts. It is easy to fall down and move to the next posture. But it takes patience and perseverance to keep trying the asana till we feel more comfortable in it.

What is special about Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana

Besides being a balance pose for strength and focus, the bend and twisting motion in the torso massages the internal organs. Consequently, detoxifying the body and stimulating the digestion and metabolism.

Chakra – wise

Being a balance posture, the Mooladhara chakra is stimulated.The root chakra is the most instinctual of all chakras – it is your survival center. Your fight and flight response is initiated from this chakra. The Revolved half moon pose allows us to harness courage and resourcefulness in all times. 

Benefits of Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana

  1. Strengthens the whole body –  from the ankles to the calves and quads, the glutes, abs and lower back muscles. It simultaneously stretches the side body, hamstrings, calves, groin and spine.
  2. Reduces anxiety, stress and sluggishness – Being a challenging asana, all our focus is on the body and breath. Thus, the mindfulness helps in destressing. And the deep breaths ensure more oxygen is supplied to the heart. This is a great posture to induce calmness and  increase the energy levels.
  3. Stimulates digestion and metabolism – Twists are an essential part of any form of exercise. As the torso is twisted, insulin-adrenalin is released in the body. Also, while the abdominal organs are pressed, the body metabolism is increased.
  4. Stability in the core and back – The asana requires us to engage our core and hips, therefore this helps us have more control of these muscles.
