Know your asana: VEERABHADRASANA 2

Veerabhadrasana 2 is a contemporary posture, introduced to meet the present fitness needs. Warrior 2 increases the lower body strength and builds patience over time.

What is so special about Veerabhadrasana 2?

This asana is a favourite among all yoga practitioners. Besides, it is widely used in cross training. As it gives a nice stretch to the major muscle groups of the body. Also it rejuvenates each and every fiber of the muscles. Thereby,  improving the body mechanism.

Chakra-wise

The Manipura chakra is stimulated in the asana. The solar plexus is the centre of  clarity, wisdom, self-confidence and wellbeing. It is often said, that a strong Manipura chakra enables an individual to face the storms with a smile. Besides, this chakra improves the relationship with the self. Only when you love and accept yourself, can you truely be compassionate and work from the Anahata chakra!

Benefits of Veerabhadrasana 2

  1. Strengthens the muscles: It stretches and strengthens the muscles of shoulders, neck, chest, core, groins, quads, hamstrings and ankles.
  2. Improves cardiovascular system: The stretching of chest muscles also affects the muscles of heart, lungs, blood vessels and other associated organs means the flow of oxygen and blood has been improved. The flow of nutrient, hormones and other cellular components becomes more frequent which results into improved metabolism.
  3. Improves digestion: The core muscles are engaged to maintain a straight posture. Thus stimulating the abdominal organs. This helps in curing digestion related problems like bloating, gas, indigestion etc. and thus improves the digestion.
  4. Enhance balance: This pose also demands balance, strength and focus. Thus, it makes your legs stronger and prepares you for the other balance poses like Veerabhadrasana 3.
