Yogic Asana that is helpful for people suffering from Diabetes.
Over the last decade Diabetes has become such a worldwide phenomenon, that today ‘sugar-free’ has become part of common parlance – its become Mainstream!
There are a large number of factors for Diabetes to have become the epidemic that it is. Being interested in historic-cultural factors, I find the fact the over-abundance of sugar in modern times, as compared to a century ago when sweets were consumed only on occasions, to be a compelling factor. The more obvious factors are of course, the sedentary lifestyle of most people today, the high-stress lives we live, apart from genetic factors.
While Modern Medicine only says that Diabetes can be controlled and not cured; alternate therapies afford a different approach to Diabetes management. In terms of Yoga, by the judicious regular practice of certain Asanas, Pranayama, Mudras, Kriyas and Shatkarmas helps to maintain the blood sugar levels and aids in the proper functioning of the Pancreas and secretion of Insulin.
Ardha Matsyendrasana is a very useful asana to do. The twist of the body causes the pancreas to be beneficially pressurized, helping to secrete Insulin in case of Type 2 Diabetic patients. You’ll also enjoy this posture even if you don’t have Diabetes – in fact you may even be able to eat that chocolate with minimum guilt!
Total Yoga is a balanced style of Yoga that focuses on Fitness training and Mindfulness practice equally.
