Meditation is our Birthright!

Let nobody tell you that Meditation is difficult. Let nobody tell you that it requires learning complex techniques. And let nobody tell you that it requires lifetimes of practice. Meditation is your Nature - every animal, tree and rock is naturally inclined to being Meditative. So why should it be a struggle for us! And yet it is. Worldwide, people are turning to Meditation to find Peace, Balance and an Anchor in their chaotic lives. And they are doing this in the millions. So much so that, there's now a global market for Meditation! You can shop online using any number of Mindfulness Apps. Or you can read a growing array of Self-help books. Or join your neighbourhood Chanting, Philosophy, Meditation circles. And if you're more curious, then you can join the Guru du jour to learn his/her well-branded Meditation technique. Chances are you'll soon find millions of 'fellow-meditators' ('Guru Bhai's if you have the same Guru). And you'll be a part of a support structure that nurtures your Meditative practice - which is very useful at the start. Soon enough you'll be part of a whole new eco-system with new Friends et al. But was that Why you started Meditation practice to begin with? So, what can I do to get started....right here, right now? Understanding what is Meditation and the types of Meditations will help you find your own practice. You will have to experiment a bit to see what suits you. But then it's better to spend that time and create a set of practices that work for you. 5 Yoga bloopers we need to avoid

The most common yoga bloopers/mistakes we make, have nothing to do with our physical alignment. It is more about our attitude and lack of awareness that dissolves the bliss of yoga practice. Eating before Yoga When doing Yoga, we want our energy to be optimised. On the other hand, if we eat anything before the practice (2-3 hours), all the energy is focused on digesting the food. And, the nausea when doing inversions or surya namaskars hampers our practice. So eat a light, easily digestible snack or fruit/nuts before the yoga session. Wearing tight fitted pants Wearing jeggings or tight yoga pants is an absolutely, NO-NO. You want your skin to breath and the blood to circulate, besides being comfortable for that one hour. Opt for clothes that allows your body to destress and breath. Listening to loud - distracting music It's motivating to have good music. But, while doing yoga we want to be mindful and  relaxed. So why put on loud-distracting music? We want to look within ourselves, practice awareness and learn to sync our body and breath. Thus, leave the music for later. Sharing yoga mats This is a matter of personal hygiene. We sweat on those mats. As a thumb rule, we wash our mats once in two weeks to maintain sanitation. We don't wear our own sweaty pants twice, so think twice about using a sweaty mat forever. And, using a stranger mat is a stranger matter. Making it too serious A lot of people think, you need to be serious while doing yoga. And, there couldn't be a bigger myth. Yoga is about letting go and relax. Finding Yoga in Africa

For most of us, holidays involve a lot of travel, food and wine. It is so easy to neglect our healthy diet and fitness routine when exploring new places and having too much fun. Practicing Yoga helps improve our physical, mental and emotional well-being when travelling. Travellers practicing yoga are able to feel at home wherever they go. The first time I went to Africa, I definitely did not think I would find a yoga studio and teacher that I would fall in love with and kept returning to practice with. After a couple of 12 hour plane rides I got to Nairobi exhausted, dreaming of elephants and white sand beaches. One “Matatu” ride, a long bus journey and a boat ride later I arrived in gorgeous Lamu - a soothing sight for my travel weary eyes. I was greeted with pristine beaches, camels sunning themselves on said beaches and Masai men and women dressed in full traditional attire ambling about. I was almost sure I was dreaming up a mirage with all the travelling the last few days involved. After pinching myself a couple of times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, I got off the boat and walked through mazy pathways, the quaintest houses and curious donkeys in way of traffic to get to the place I was going to call home for what I thought was going to be a week.
